Hi I’m Chelsea,
AKA Mrs Whittle.
British expat, living in The Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia for nearly 7 years.
Here’s my ultimate guide on what to pack in your case.
Food items ~
Tea bags~ very British I know
Nando’s spices for seasoning
Organix snacks / food pouches
Occasions / celebrations ~
Birthday cards~ 5 for £1 from Card Factory~ the average birthday card here is 25 SAR- £5.53
Top tip~ ask family members to write any birthday or anniversary cards in advance & bring them with you (this saves on shipping costs, items being delayed or going missing & you’ll appreciate a hand written card on your first birthday or anniversary away from home)
Party-ware, balloons, decorations, party bag fillers, helium balloons etc
Toiletries / medicines~
Sun cream~ 5* UV Rating from Boots, Aldi, Nivea or Childs Farm
Tampons / moon cup
Calpol as it is completely unavailable in Kingdom
Piriton / Piriteze for children
Infacol for babies
Paracetamol as it’s cheaper in the UK than here
Ventolin Inhalers~ they always run out in kingdom
Toothpaste (it tastes different over here)
Vick’s nasal sticks
Children’s battery powered toothbrushes as they are triple the price over here!
Zoflora~ I am yet to find any in Saudi
Dr Beckmann whitening sheets
Clothing & shoes ~
Bulk buy children’s clothing & the next size up
Wellies & waterproofs for puddle jumping~ when it rains, it rains!
Winter jacket or coat~ it was colder In Saudi than England one year (true story)
Shoes~ again, size up for the littles
Educational bits & bobs from Little Boo Learning
Books, books & more books~ The Works offer 10 for £10 is amazing. Sadly, from experience the average (English) children’s book costs around 80 SAR – £17.69 each over here.
School uniform if applicable
Toys, let your children pack a few of their favorite toys, whether it be in their hand luggage or suitcase as it helps with the transition / settling in again
As sad as this sounds, it feels great to jump in the car in England & be able to shop at my own leisure, without the obligatory text message notifying my husband I have used his debit or credit card again after every transaction.
I love nothing more than mooching in B&M, George at Asda, The Pound Shop, The Works & Primani for all of our essentials.
Disclaimer~ you might find some of the above items in Kingdom, or the nearby country Bahrain. I’ll be honest with you, I like a simple, stress free life. Who wants to spend evenings or the weekend traipsing the mall searching for items when you could be spending time with family and friends making memories.
Ps~ For everything else there’s my number 1 online shop Sprii~ everything for mums.
You can also use code CHELSEA10 for an extra 10% off everything.
Sprii offer free delivery, cash on delivery option available, a price match guarantee and they are highly recommended across the Middle East.
Thank you for reading.
I hope you find this blog post useful, feel free to drop me a message if you have any questions.
